Affiliate Terminology

Affiliate Marketing involves using a large number of acronyms and other terms. We provide a comprehensive guide as to what's being used.

  • Advertiser - A merchant or someone who pays money.
  • AF - AffiliateFuture.co.uk (Network)
  • Affiliate - An individual person or company who displays the advertising
  • ASP - Affiliate Service Provider
  • Awin - Affiliate Window (Network)
  • CJ - Commission Junction (Network)
  • Conversion - how many clicks to every sale.
  • CPA - Cost Per action.
  • CPC - Cost per click.
  • CPL - Cost per lead.
  • Creative - The banners and artwork.
  • CSV - This is a type of spreadsheet.
  • EPC - Earnings per click. The amount a person has earnt/divided by the number of clicks.
  • ISP - Internet Service Provider
  • Merchant - Someone who pays for the advertising.
  • Network - The people who act as a third party and track everything.
  • Product Feed - This is where the merchant makes available the list of products or services. They usually do this in an CSV file or XML feed.
  • Publisher - An affiliate, an American term.
  • Screen Scrape - This where the data is taken from a website. For example a price comparison site will check your website and then pull the information it needs about each product such as the name, brand, description, price, image and the url
  • SLA - Service Level Agreement
  • TD - Tradedoubler (Network)
  • XML - A type of datastructure
